The Bignucolo Residence, opened in March 1998, is a 25-bed long-term care facility with 2 respite beds, 4 chronic care beds and 19 long-term care beds.
Our 25 bed facility is a beautiful smoke-free environment that has both private and semi-private rooms. We have a central dining service, a large patient lounge for activities and an amazing outdoor courtyard.
We provide reliable and timely health care services by qualified healthcare professionals. All direct patient care is provided by registered practical nurses and registered nurses are available to provide assessment and consultation as needed. There is a physician on call 24 hours a day, seven days a week to provide medical services as needed. A registered dietitian is available to provide nutritional care and education. Physiotherapy, occupational therapy, and speech language pathology services are available through the Community Care Access Services. Our Activation Team provides a number of leisure activities and will encourage participation in old hobbies or new ones, games, entertainment or community outings.
In our most recent long-term care survey, 100% of participating residents told us that they are satisfied with the quality of care that we provide.

General Information

The Bignucolo Residence is a warm and inviting place. From the light filled solarium’s attractive dining room, to the professional care, we maintain the highest standards in a caring atmosphere.
The facility itself is situated in a tranquil location and is connected to the hospital. Outside is a fully paved walking path that circles the building as well as a newly constructed Courtyard which features a resident garden, water fountain, and sitting area for residents and their visitors. The Courtyard is surrounded by a fence for the protection of residents and to keep out undesirable wildlife. A full view of the Courtyard is possible in the resident dinning room and offers a pleasant view all year long.
Inside are 19 Long Term Care beds ranging from private, semi-private to basic rates, as well as 4 Complex Continuing Care beds. Regardless of the level of care and accommodations, all residents are viewed equally and receive the same quality of care.
NOTE: The Sudbury-Manitoulin Community Care Access Centre determines placement on the admission/ waiting list based on a clinical assessment.

The Bignucolo Residence is located in the West Wing of the Chapleau General Hospital at 6 Broomhead Road in Chapleau, Ontario.

Visiting Hours
-
Visitors may see their loved ones at any time throughout the day and evening. However, visitors will be encouraged to attend between 12:00 pm and 8:00 pm to facilitate the Residents’ care needs and building security. Extended visits are permitted as appropriate. The residence is accessible 24 hrs a day.

Public Transportation

A Handi-Transit Bus Service is available to residents of the Bignucolo Residence and to the community of Chapleau. Hours of operation are as follows:
Monday to Friday:
8:45 am – 11:45 am
1:00 pm – 2:30 pm
This service is provided by the Township of Chapleau. Reservations for the bus can be made by calling 864-4477.

Reception

The entrance to the Bignucolo Residence is the main entrance for the Services de santé Chapleau Health Services. Information regarding a resident’s location can be obtained in person at the hospital’s reception desk, at the Nursing station, or by calling 705-864-1520.

Parking Services

There is visitor’s parking available in the parking lot of Services de santé de Chapleau Health Services. Vehicles parked in areas identified as no-parking zones, fire routes and drop-off zones will be ticketed.
